There were 34 Black students enrolled in Eastland County schools in the 2021-22 school year, 15% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Eastland County welcomed 2,690 students during the 2021-22 school year. Among them, Black comprised 1.3% of the student body to be the fourth least represented ethnicity in the county.

Among the 15 schools in Eastland County, only Eastland High School and Ranger High School enrolled any Black students, welcoming six students each in the 2021-22 school year.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
