Central College Texas issued the following announcement on June 2
Dear students and employees
I am deeply saddened and troubled by the senseless killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mr. Floyd’s death is a reminder of the racial injustice that continues to permeate our society due to pervasive racism, prejudice and bigotry. The impact to the African-American community is devastating as people fear for their lives because of the color of their skin.
As we attempt to comprehend this horrific tragedy, it quickly becomes evident that it is truly incomprehensible. Our collective response to the death of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and so many others, must be one of outrage coupled with a deep and lasting commitment to treat one another with dignity and respect. This simple step will help move us forward in addressing racism and injustice. We continue the journey by using the college’s intellectual capital to educate our students and employees on the importance of equality and justice for all people.
During this time of sorrow and grief at the loss of innocent lives, I encourage you to support and strengthen one another. If you are feeling overwhelmed or anxious, please contact the college’s Student and Employee Assistance Program.
My goal is to work toward a better world in which love, compassion and kindness replace hate, ignorance and indifference. I invite you to join me.
Sincerely,
Jim Yeonopolus, Chancellor
